Slimming down

Gaining and losing weight can be a seasonal experience, with winters ideal for building an additional few kilos in padding and summertime making it easy to sweat and drop a few kilos with relative ease. The problem comes in when we hit the magic four point zero. Yes, version 4.0 wrecks havoc on our metabolisms and sees us slowing down to a fast crawl. If you do not eat less and decrease your calorie intake you will become overweight quicker than it takes a 737 to land in perfect weather.

What can a 40 something do? For one there are no easy and quick solutions, you need to change and adapt your lifestyle to your new situation. There seems to be a direct relationship with longevity and the average calory intake, the closer one seems to be to starvation the longer one lives. Go figure.

Anyway, building better eating habits is not just about what (and how much) is going down the piehole, it is also about when the you are consuming. To be perfectly honest, until a few weeks ago I was happily snacking after 8pm at night, a time when my metabolism for all purposes and intent has done the Elvis thing on me (left the building).

So the first commandment of over 40 slimming down is:

1. Do not eat late at night
